Dimagi/Colorado Behavioral Health Administration

The Project

Dimagi was working with the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration to develop a new web application for reporting bed availability, finding available beds for patients and managing referrals. This application was being developed on the Dimagi CommCare application. The project team recognized a need to improve the UX and visual design of the app, so the brought me in to assist with these tasks.

The Process

  • Participate in user and task analysis review

  • Review existing UI/UX/visual design

  • Create ideal state UI/UX mockups

  • Conduct iterative redesign of existing UI/UX

  • Develop visual design guidelines

  • Create application icons

  • Work with dev team to support implementation

The Work

The work began with a comprehensive analysis of the current UI/UX/visual design. Based on this analysis we identified key areas for improving the design. With limited time and resources improvements needed to be carefully managed, so we worked closely with the project team to identify the highest value/lowest effort changes.

The project proceeded through several design iterations. At each step we need to take into consideration the capabilities of the CommCare platform and design a UI that would fit within these capabilities, while at the same time providing a vision for the future direction of the design.
